Candle Care and Storage

TLC for Your Wood Wick Candle

A little care goes a long way when it comes to getting the best from your candle.

Our wood wicks are made from natural timber, so each one is unique—just like the stories that inspire our scents. Because of variations in wood grain and thickness, no two candles will burn exactly the same.

To get the most out of your candle, always allow the first burn to reach a full melt pool (where the wax melts all the way to the edge of the tin). This sets the "memory" of the candle—if the wax only melts in a small circle around the wick, future burns will tunnel down instead of melting evenly, eventually drowning the wick.

Struggling to Light Your Wick?
It’s normal for wood wicks to need a few tries to get going—just relight until it catches. A few extra tips:

  • Trim your wick before each burn. Keep it short and remove all charred bits. Nail clippers work perfectly.

  • When relighting, tilt the candle slightly and light from an angle to help the flame travel across the wick.

  • Use a click-lighter to melt a small wax pool, then extinguish and let it cool for a minute. Blot away excess wax with a tissue, wait another moment, and try again.

Seeing Tunnelling?
If your candle seems to be burning down the middle or leaving hard wax around the edges, don’t try to fix it by scraping. Instead, let it burn for longer stretches—often the wax will catch up and level out over time.

The most common cause of a wick that won’t stay lit or a tunnelled burn is a short first burn. A little patience early on makes all the difference.

Storage Tips for Candle Lovers

Give your candle the cosy home it deserves

Your soy wax candle is a little piece of calm—and just like your favourite book, it likes to be kept in a good spot when not in use. Here’s how to keep it at its best:

  • Keep out of direct sunlight – UV light can affect the colour and fragrance of your candle.

  • Store in a cool, dry place – Too much heat can cause the wax to sweat, and humidity can affect the label or packaging.

  • Pop the lid back on – This helps lock in the scent between burns.

  • Avoid drafts and dust – If storing your candle for a while, tuck it somewhere clean and still to keep the wax surface smooth and fresh.

A little care between uses helps your candle burn beautifully and smell amazing, every time you light it.

Storage Guidelines for Retailers

Keeping your candles in perfect shop-floor condition

Our soy wax candles are lovingly handmade in small batches, and like all artisan goods, they thrive in the right environment. To keep them looking and smelling their best before they reach your customers:

  • Avoid direct sunlight – Natural light can fade labels and fragrance over time. Store candles away from windows and bright shop displays.

  • Keep cool and dry – Candles are happiest at room temperature, ideally between 15–21°C. Avoid placing them near heaters, radiators, or in humid storage areas.

  • No heavy stacking – If storing extras, don’t overload or compress candle boxes—too much pressure can affect the shape and finish.

  • Separate strong scents – If storing multiple fragrances, try to keep them apart to avoid scent crossover.

  • Rotate stock regularly – First in, first out helps keep your display fresh and your customers happy.

  • Tester Products - If testers are used, ensure they are clearly marked and not sold as new stock.

Handled with care, your stock will smell just as lovely on the shelf as it did the day it left our studio.
